UK Timber Prices 2025

Why Our Prices Are What They Are…

ThermoWood Timber Cladding & Decking Pricing Guide

This page has been created to ensure you have all the information you require to help you plan and budget for your project, in which we offer you honest and reliable information about our pricing.

Key Considerations:

01. The Species.

First, our prices will vary depending on the species of timber you choose. There are two main categories you can choose from, our Softwood timbers and our Hardwood timbers. So, what’s the difference between the two? Softwood Explanation Price Range (m2 Guide): £15.00 – £99.00 (Depending on board thickness and width machine profile finished.) The growing cycle from planting to harvesting is much quicker compared to hardwoods hence one of the reasons the cost is lower. All Scottish grown softwood species like Larch, Douglas Fir and Western Red Cedar are dense and durable enough to not require preservative treatment but they all have knots, these are generally tight knots as the material is select grade avoiding sapwood. The colours will vary between cream to pinkish and light brown tones and the durability is around 25 years but will be shorter at 10-15 yrs for pressure treated sawn featheredge which is a lot cheaper and not graded. Stability is achieved by bringing down the moisture content to around 12-18% and is expected to have a small movement in service. Thermally modified ThermoWood technology (high heat and steam process) is used on the Scandinavian Knotty Redwood Pine and the clear grade New Zealand Radiata Pine, which further increases durability but more importantly makes the timber extremely stable which in the UK climate is very important for the timber’s longevity. This technology does add a bit to the cost but the benefits in performance out way the extra cost. Hardwood Explanation Price Range (m2 Guide): £61.00 – £149.00 (Depending on board thickness, width and machine profile finished.) There are many species of Hardwood that are naturally resistant to rotting and due to their slow growing cycle are very dense and durable. The higher cost of hardwoods is because their yield is extremely important due to the much longer growing cycle before reaching maturity. Therefore, the foresters need to fully maximise every part of the tree to avoid unnecessary waste. The larger the girth of the trunk the more efficient the yield is from each log. Lengths are supplied randomly for this reason from 1.2m up to 3.6m occasionally longer depending on species. We only select clear grade, so they are virtually free from knots and defects. To achieve this, hardwoods are generally sold at random lengths to maintain the quality. Fixed length hardwood orders that are defect free can take longer to procure as end defects and splits are removed therefore shortening the timber which in turn will not meet the order requirement. Thermally modified (ThermoWood) technology allows us to use non-Amazonian species that would not be used in an external environment, therefore alleviating the market pressures on Amazonian and Tropical species. These include Ash, Tulip, Ayous, Frake, Movingui and Iroko providing excellent stability and 30+ years durability. Grain, texture, and colouring vary widely from a honey brown to a dark brown.

02. The Dimensions.

Our pricing will be based on the thickness, width and length of the boards which includes your chosen profile. We offer a variety of lengths from 1.2m up to 4.8m and sometimes longer. Bespoke sizes are also an option. Choosing mixed-length boards is a great way to save costs as fixed-length boards have additional costs due to the reasons outlined above. We have a whole blog on this topic here if you wish to discover more.

03. The Finishes.

You can find a variety of different finishes that we offer across all of our timber species. We ensure that we are able to create a cladding board perfect for your project. Our finishes include the ThermoChar range and Atelier range, in which every board passes through upto 5 separate stages to completion, some of which are by hand to ensure every board that nature has provided, is produced with due care and attention prior to being packaged and protected ready for delivery. These prices will range from £45-£210 per M2. (Depending on board thickness and width machine profiled and either ThermoChar® or Atelier® finished.)

04. Maintenance and Correct Installation.

Another thing you will get from us in every quote is our recommended specialised stainless screws which are supplied black coated if your material is black finished or standard stainless colour for other finishes, specifically made for our cladding and decking products. We are the only UK supplier of these screws that have a small 5mm diameter head and a Torx 15 aperture which is more robust than a Torx 10 aperture, to reduce appearance, and spiral and cut points for clearing and cutting through the timber. We also offer the clear wax sealer which is painted onto all cut board ends to prevent end grain checking which can happen when timber tries to expel moisture too quickly. This can happen with all timber. The finishing touchup sealer is for any parts that have been marked during installation. The Messmers UV plus Oil contains high UV pigments to help reduce the suns effect and maintain the look of your timber for years ahead and recommended for those of you that just require a machine finished timber without additional finishes. We add these products into the quote as we want to ensure you, or your builder, that you have everything you need to install your cladding properly and maintain it. You can of course remove these items at quote stage if not required.

05. Delivery.

All of our completed orders are carefully packed and strapped onto pallets and bearers so that they can be offloaded at site by a telehandler and black wrapped to protect against the weather. Our ThermoChar® and Atelier® range of finished products have an additional foam protection sheet between each row of boards to protect the surface during transit. We would like to think that should your material be unloaded off the delivery vehicle by hand then these protection sheets are also used to continue protecting the product prior to installation.

Key Questions to ask yourself:

Am I looking for an eco-friendly and sustainable façade to my property?

If so, do it want to run the boards vertically or horizontally?

Which profile would look best?

What finish would suit my project?

How will I finish the corners and window/door reveals?

What cladding battens do I require?

Do I need fire treatment to satisfy building requirements?

Need advice and guidance?

Then give us a call or drop us an email and our technical team can work it through with you either over the phone or in person at our show area so you can view close up all the options available to you.
