What is ThermoWood?

ThermoWood is a thermal modification procedure that preserves wood in its most natural and flawless state for a life-long journey. The “ThermoWood method” involves a carefully computer controlled heat and steam process up to 210 degrees C.

Besides the preservation, the ThermoWood process also causes certain chemical changes in wood. Not only does the colour darken but the stability, decay resistance and insulation properties are largely increased after the process is complete.

The ThermoWood method, brand and logo can only by the used by members of the International ThermoWood Association.

FSC ThermoWood Ash Hardwood

Ash Hardwood is an essential material in woodcraft, due to its amazing durability. Ash is a hardwood with a high number of growth rings, and features an aesthetic look with its wavy texture. These qualities make Novathermowood Ash Decking a multi-purpose, aesthetic and durable material. With its beautiful brown colour and its strength. It is good for outdoor areas where heavy traffic is expected. If you seek an elegant look to highlight your spaces, durable and reliable Novathermowood Ash Decking is the right choice.

Woodworkers generally like the timber for its great finishing qualities. It also has good machining qualities, and is quite easy to use with screws and glue. The Ash timber used in ThermoWood production is sourced from North America.

ThermoWood Iroko Hardwood
The exotic Iroko provides an ideal exterior decking material once it has gone through the thermo treatment giving it improved stability and durability. Its light amber colour and an elegant look captures perfection with its modern aspect.

Iroko is a large hardwood tree from the west coast of tropical Africa. It is one of the woods sometimes referred to as African Teak, although it is unrelated to the teak family. Iroko is very durable, and is resistant to both rot and insect attack.

Iroko is a strong, very durable timber and has a very attractive appearance. Suitable for many purposes for which teak is used, including exterior and interior joinery, bench tops and draining boards. Also used in boat building and vehicle building industry.

ThermoWood Pine Softwood

The all familiar redwood pine tree has been the main woodcraft for centuries. Pines are among the most commercially important tree species valued for their timber and wood pulp throughout the world. Redwood Pine wood is a softwood widely used in high-value carpentry items such as furniture, window frames, panelling, floors and roofing. Pine has a natural look and with its light colour and knotty texture, and is the preferred choice for nature lovers. The Pine timber used in ThermoWood production originates from the cold climates of Finland and Siberia where the slower growth yields a higher quality

Ipe Hardwood

Ipe hardwood originates from South America, where it is reffered to as ‘Iron wood’. Not only does this species have a beautiful smell (Subtle yet characteristic vanilla/cinnamon scent while being worked) but it is also a tough species making it the perfect material for outdoor use. Ipe is a very durable spceies and has excellent insect resistance.

Colour Variation

Timber is a diverse natural product. All species of timber can have a range of colours, not only between trees in the same forest, but also in boards sawn from the same tree. For this reason it is nearly impossible to see the variances of a species in a single sample.

Samples vary in colour so we recommend that you visit a display or show area where you can really get an understanding of what the boards will look and feel like. QTD have their very own unique show areas, why not come and visit us!
